Multipurpose Hospital Building of the Granollers Hospital Campus
Servei Català de la Salut
The proposal for the multipurpose hospital building built using industrialized procedures is aimed at establishing an extension of the existing building that will temporarily be used as a COVID support, but which has a clear vocation for expansion and with a vision of the future. Not only does it incorporate the expansion of emergencies, but it establishes subsequent phases in which it can be expanded with a new surgical block (independently) and / or four hospitalization floors above the volume of the first phase. We have structured the building in three naves perpendicular to a spine of circulations and connections. These three naves are separated by 6m light patios (also full of vegetation) that face southeast and enjoy the ma-ximum possible natural light. The building is made up of naves with two bays with a precast concrete structure, which facilitates the interior layout and speed of execution. Future growth is guaranteed with a metallic structure, leaving the foundations for two tower cranes in the patios that will allow the construction of phase 2 very easily. The objective of the pro-posal is to provide a global solution that guarantees the technical, economic and term viability of the competition rules, but adding the value of evidence-based design in the field of neu-roarchitecture, providing the building with spaces that be nice. The issue of biophilia is speci-fically addressed, bringing vegetation closer to each of the spaces where possible. A boule-vard for public circulation is created from the upper parking lot to the roundabout leading to the hospital. This promenade runs alongside the patios that separate the existing building from the extension, dug into the basement to provide natural light and contact with the ve-getation. Access for people with reduced mobility or those who cannot use the escalators is done by a panoramic elevator that reaches in front of the public entrance to the emergency room, which is accessed from a passage to the second floor. Flexibility and versatility The building allows different configurations and the growth of each one of the areas can be carried out independently of the rest.
